And what do points mean Pee Wees?

Ah yes prizes that's what!

Yesterday saw Head Coach Tony Wakelin dangle a carrot in front of the Pee Wees in the shape of, work hard in training, pay attention to the coaching staff and your team mates, try your best, have fun and whoever has the most points at the end of the season wins an amazing carrot . . . um prize rather, and an amazing one!
It was noted how much harder the Pee Wees trained last night . . . a coincidence mebe? Nope, Carolyn's Angels & Devils have their sights set well and truly on winning the finest hockey stick a Pee Wee could wish for . . . .

Brilliant idea Coach, which it would be because we have a brilliant Coach!

GO PEE WEES!

Bulldogs very own Captain Jack . . .

Not a pirate (obviously), this season's Youth Captain, Jack Abbott (make a note of the name because he'll go far) speaks really highly of his team mates, he also speaks very highly of the club and come to think of it he even speaks very highly of the Youth Team Manager . . . and that's his Dad!
In a nut-shell Jack Abbott is an incredibly well-mannered, genuine young man who deserves all the respect he receives. Yeah, he'll be a pretty good Captain we think.

Tomorrows matches are against Ash and Oxford, how do you think the team will perform?
"I know the team will give at least 110%, they did in our opening 2 matches, the final results of both matches no way mirrored how well we played that weekend, we were pretty proud of ourselves, tomorrows matches will have the same committment from everyone in the team so we'll see"

Which team in the league do you want to beat the most?
"Swindon"

Before matches when you all go for a warm-up run, is it true that your Manager (Martin, his Dad lol) runs with you?
"Yep, he came 3rd last time! Alex and I just beat him"

Best hockey moment?
"At last years Youth Nationals, I think we were playing Eastbourne, apart from Becca (goalie) there was only me and Jai on the rink, Jai still scored, it was brilliant"

You're one of our up-and-coming coaching stars, following in the footsteps of Zach, Magic and Ricci, do you plan on training to be a coach or official in the future?
"If I can then yes, definately, I really enjoy it. Coaching our new 'Street Hockey' sessions with Ricci is great fun and I'm learning alot"

Favourite colour?
"White"

Best X-Box game?
"GTA5"

When you get your pilots license can I have a free flight to New York or somewhere?
"No"

So, Heyford may have kick started Jacks love of all things inline but we Bulldogs have made him one of our own.
Good luck and kick much a$$ tomorrow!

GO BULLDOGS

No amount of Easter eggs will make this better

Due to the inconvenience of Easter there isn't any training or street hockey today at Spiceball. This makes us quite sad . . .
Anyhoo, Happy Easter . .

Ricci Capel talks hockey

First matches last weekend as Junior Captain Ricci, how was it?
"Pretty good, I enjoyed it"
Even though we didn't win that weekend, how do you think the team did, were you happy with everyone's performance?
"Yes, everyone in the team gave 110%, I couldn't ask for much more than that to be honest, I knew they would put that amount of effort in that's why I have a lot of respect for them, first weekend of the season, we were just finding our feet, we're still going to qualify for the Nationals"
Is that this seasons goal then, to qualify for the Nationals?
"Yeah, that's one of my goals"
Ok, so which team in the league would you most like to beat?
"Definitely Ash, and we will"
You've played at every level, minnow, pee wee, youth etc, for any pee wee reading this what's the difference when you play matches as a junior compared to matches you played as a pee wee?
"It's a lot faster, harder, so much more physical at junior level, by the time you get to play as a junior it's not too much of a shock to the system if you've been training hard and listening to what Tony (Coach) tells you to do . . . it's just very physical and fast at junior level"
You've been selected to try out for Team GB this year . . how did that make you feel?
"I was really glad to be nominated, very proud and of course Jai and Alex R. were invited to try out as well, if all 3 of get picked it'll be brilliant"
You do quite a bit of coaching these days, the Street Hockey Sessions for a start, is coaching something you enjoy? Is it something you're going to keep doing or do you fancy moving into the world of officials, being a ref and stuff?
"No way do I want to be a ref, I enjoy coaching, Jack and I coach the Street Hockey players, it's good fun"
Yes the younger players have a huge amount of respect for you, it's nice to see
So, your bestest ever hockey moment was . . . ?
"Scoring my first goal as a pee wee in 2005"
Your Mum's just told me that you scored the winning goal at the pee wee Nationals in 2005 against Swindon . . . remember that?
"oh yes . . . lol"
Finally, were you really called Pocket Rocket as a Pee Wee?
"No, my Mum made that up"
Oh? Lol, uhuh, cheers Ricci ;-)

Match reports 03/03/2013 . . .

Sunday was the start of this year’s UK Skater Hockey Season with Junior and Pee Wee teams from Banbury Bulldogs Skater Hockey Club playing in the opening weekend’s fixtures.

Junior League
Swindon Flames 10 - Bulldogs 1
Oxford 9 - Bulldogs 0

Bulldog’s Junior squad were left to count the cost (and goal tally) of some impressive passing from Swindon. The teams looked pretty equal in the match’s opening exchanges but with Banbury squandering some of their early possession due to some below par passing, Swindon took the opportunity to press forward, and after being kept at bay for a while by Banbury’s defence and some top drawer saves from their keeper Dave Ballaam, Swindon’s persistence paid off breaking the deadlock then taking the advantage by swiftly extending their lead. Banbury dug deep but as the game progressed Swindon steadily extended their lead, the only consolation for Banbury being a goal from their captain, Ricci Capel.
The Junior’s second match was a much more evenly contested match, with both teams having shots on goal and fiercely challenging the other for possession. In the end, the deciding factor was a match winning performance by two Oxford players.

Pee Wee League
Oxford Storm 1 - Bulldogs 0
Ash Avalanche Freeze 1 - Bulldogs 2

The two opening matches for Banbury’s Pee Wee team were both thrillers. Banbury’s team which included some new recruits playing in a competitive match for the first time, gave it their all and they should be proud of the effort they put in and how they rose to the occasion.Their first game against Oxford was balanced on a knife edge for minute after minute with both teams coming close to scoring. When eventually the deadlock was broken, Banbury kept attacking and were unlucky not to have scored.
Banbury’s will to win was rewarded in their second match - coming from a goal down to beat Ash thanks to a great team performance, goals from Tom and Ted Allen and an impressive leading display from captain Aimee Wakelin who lead her team to victory.

Angels & Devils . . .

A sneak preview and a 'hot off the press' scoop maybe of the Pee Wee Managers exciting new team logo . . . Carolyn is officially 're-branding' the Pee Wee team as 'Carolyns Angels & Devils' . . . Yes, we like!
Question . . . ? What if you've got angels that are, in reality, more akin to devils . . . ?
I for one, needn't look too far away to see a prize example of this in action. LOL.

Saturday, 16 February 2013

We're not boasting . . . oh yes we are!

Ricci Capel, Jai Robinson and Alex Ryder have been asked to join the GB Junior Team today for trials.
Outstanding!
Having already done the Club proud, we hope today they make themselves proud . . .  mind you, as all three of them are amazing players and all-round very nice chaps of course they will, it goes without saying!
We wish them GOOD LUCK!

Apparently it's called bum jousting . . .
It was the funniest bout of mayhem I've seen in a long while . . .
I just wish I'd started filming it sooner but it was just so funny to watch that I forgot . . . hey ho

Watch a snippet of it here . . .

Robbed of 3rd by a sloe blue elephant . .

In true Bulldog spirit the 'Banbury Bulldogs Quiz Team' (yes we do have one . . . of sorts), Wilf, Darren, Carolyn, Martin and Fiona took on other intelligent teams, 'Quizzy Rascal', 'Horse Burgers' 'Norfolk and Hope' to name but a few, at tonight's 'Curry and Quiz Night' held at Chenderit School, organised brilliantly by the fabulous School Association bods . . .

Anyhoo, if it hadn't of been for a 'sloe blue elephant' we'd have come 3rd, as it was we came a more than respectable, joint 4th.
Uhuh, the rest of the team were very clever!

But oh, don't some people go on . . . . and on . . .
Typical of Darren, if he mentioned the sloe blue arrrrggghhh elephant once, he mentioned it a million times, on a loop akin to a broken record . . .  he's never ever going to let it drop that if it hadn't been for the 'sloe blue chuffing elephant' that ultimately cost us 3 stupid chuffing points, yeah yeah blah blah blah joint 4th, yawn, whatever . .
And before anyone else starts, NO 3rd place wouldn't of won us a prize . . . or have got us a certificate so hello? Does it chuffing matter . . . ?!!!

Stupid sloe blue sodding elephants to one side, it was a really good evening, everyone enjoyed themselves even though the hateful sloe chuffing blue dumb elephant cost someone not too far away a round of drinks as penance . . .  Shamim got us a point (yay) and he wasn't even there, the bar almost ran dry and the food was lovely.
Fantastic!

P.S If I hear one mention of the sloe blue elephant tomorrow Darren, so help me I won't be responsible for my actions . . .

And don't do it again!

So, our coach isn't the only one to dish out push-ups as a form of 'punishment' . . .
I do believe yesterdays 'hit the floor and give me 10' was metered out for not responding to an instruction quickly enough (you sloth's!).
Anyhoo, Rhode Island Police dish out the same to naughty teenagers . . . as 'did' a boss in Milan to his staff if they made a mistake, I say 'did' because I think he's now languishing in prison, no doubt doing lots of push-ups, for being a bit OTT where his staff were concerned . . .

Any other business . . .

Just in case anyone was wondering what happens at our committee meetings . . . . I can report that lots of clever things are discussed and lots of coffee downloaded . . . to start with anyhoo.

I'm not one to gossip but, from what I gathered Darrens got cones (painful), Carole will only do a semi naked photo shoot when the weather warms up, the treasurers report would look better without the yellow background and I don't know the first thing about Mr Poly..

As I said lots of clever things were discussed . . .

Only joshing guys! lmao.

Get your skates on!

Absolutely delighted are we by the turn out for Saturdays 'Street Hockey' session, it was great to see so many new faces, even better was seeing so many kids getting into it and really enjoying themselves . . . job done!
I did have a chuckle at the '3 amigos' who came to just watch (uhuh) but after 5 minutes were getting kitted up desperate to have a go, just brilliant!
For those who don't yet know Banbury Bulldogs Skater Hockey Club have recently started a one hour 'street hockey' session at Spiceball Leisure Centre on Saturday afternoons 1:30 - 2:30. The age group for this is up to 12 years, no experience is necessary AND we provide all the kit, including skates, that the kiddys need . . . because we're nice like that lol, ahem . . .
Anyhoo skating on, the first session is free then it's £3.00 per session thereafter. A veritable bargain.
As a club we are trying to promote skater hockey locally, not necessarily at club level but as a sport that both girls and boys can equally take part in and most importantly, once introduced to the game, will enjoy!
Also as we provide all the equipment, parents can breathe a sigh of relief at not having to find the spare cash for sports kit, a big bonus we think given we're all watching the pennies.
See you at the next session!
Go Bulldogs!

And on the 7th day, Carol baked some cakes and all was good!

#NEWSFLASH#

Tomorrow's cakes, baked as always by the lovely Carol Wakelin (Mum to number 42 x 3), are . . . . wait for it . . . .

BLUEBERRY MUFFINS!!!

Roll on tomorrows training is all I can say and I for one will be taking a foody container along to transport the 4 I'm bringing home in. Diets are for wimps!

Now as Carol doesn't blow her own trumpet, bugle or recorder I shall do it for her.
Last year Carols cakes (and the teas and coffees etc) added over £300 to club funds which is amazing! She buys all the ingredients, gives up her time (like she isn't busy enough eh?) just so's the rest of us get to stuff our faces with the most delicious of cakes.
Thank you Carol, the Bulldog salutes you!

P.S Put me down for an extra 3 to eat at training!

So wrong, wrong on every level . .

Yes it's Christmas, but why?
How could anyone do THAT to a British Bulldog, for goodness sake, the dog has "I'm so ashamed" written all over his wrinkly chops . . . . .

Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas Bulldogs!

Sunday, 16 December 2012

Come in number 42, your times up . . . .

Aimee Wakelin (42) Pee Wee Captain 2012 pictured doing what she does best, scoring!
The Bulldog caught up with Aimee, the out-going Pee Wee Captain, at last nights presentation and awards evening . . . I spoke to her at the start of the evening, well before the countless bottles of downed coke sugar rush took its effect and babble mode kicked in . . . . ah yes, the Bulldog is wise!
So number 42, the answer to life, the universe and everything . . . you've had a pretty impressive year but as Captain what was the one thing you were most proud of?
"Being Captain to the hero's of the Pee Wee team, Max, Mim, Reece and Ellen who turned up every week for training and who turned up for every league match even though we sometimes only fielded 4 players which is really tough going. Their commitment and dedication to the team and the club is what I'm most proud of, they're just awesome."
And your proudest moment?
"Getting picked for the SASH Dream Team, I was really surprised and yeah really proud".
So was the club Aimee!

Well done and thank you.

Saturday, 15 December 2012

You've been pretty magic, Magic . . .

Magic Wakelin (42) Junior Captain 2012

At last I managed to catch up with this years Junior Captain, Magic Wakelin.

Nice tattoo . . . always impressed with stupidity and bravery!

Anyhoo, the Bulldog wanted to know,

What would you say has been your proudest moment this year as Junior Captain?
"I'm really proud of how the younger youth players stepped up and played for the junior team this season, they worked really hard for the me and did a brilliant job".

And your proudest personal moment would be . . . ? I asked already knowing the answer but there you go . . lol,
"Most definitely it would be winning a bronze medal at this years Europeans as GB junior captain, representing the junior team and also representing the country was an absolute honour, my dad was pretty proud of me too which doesn't happen too often . . . lol".

Alls that's left to say is well done Magic, yes you've been magic, your achievements with Team GB have done the Club proud, you are most definitely one of Banbury Bulldogs stars!

Thank you for all your hard work as Junior Captain, keep up the outstanding work!

Friday, 14 December 2012

A club full of unusual names . . . ?

The Bulldog was asked today if it was necessary to have an unusual name or one unusually spelt to join the club . . . .
Ummmm no.
But the Dog can see where they're coming from . . .
Magic
Zach
Jez
Jai
Juan
Harris
Ricci
Mim
Aimee
Oz
Becca . . . . .
Maybe there's something in it, is it the norm we wonders . . .

Words of Wisdom from Jai

Jai Robinson (81), 2012 Captain of the Bulldogs Youth Team
The Bulldog caught up with the retiring Youth Captain last night at training . . .
In your role as Youth Team Captain, what was your proudest moment this season?"Leading the Youth Team out at the Youth National Championships."
And best personal moment for Jai the hockey player?"Scoring an awesome penalty at the Youth National Championships against Stanstead Hurricanes."
There were nods of agreement all round, it really was a mighty fine penalty!

Alls that's left to say is thank you Jai for being an outstanding Captain this year.
The Youth Team say you've done a brilliant job and everyone at the club I'm sure will agree that you've been, as always, a fine ambassador not just for the club but for the sport itself.

Good luck in the Junior team for 2013 . . . keep scoring awesome penalty's!
